The Los Angeles Angels host the Oakland Athletics in game one of their four game series.
The Oakland Athletics are in a virtual tie for first in the AL West and need both their pitching and hitting to get back on the same page if they hope to capture the division. A big 9th inning carried the day in a 5-4 decision at Houston and set up a big series with the Angels. Drew Pomeranz gave up an unearned run over five innings with Ryan Cook allowing two. Coco Criso slammed a solo homer while Sam Fuld went deep and drove in two. The Athletics kick off the series with Sonny Gray on the hill who faces the Los Angeles Angels for the third time in 2014. Gray has been a solid member of the rotation with a 13-7 record and 3.00 ERA.

The Los Angeles Angels are trying to finish the regular season strong and win the American League West as opposed to being in the Wild Card which is nothing more then a one game playoff. The Angels maintained their slim lead in the West with a 6-1 win over the visiting Marlins on Wednesday. Starter Hector Santiago picked up the win with a run plated through 5.2 frames while the offense did the rest. Los Angeles made the most of eight hits with Mike Trout and Gordon Beckham going deep with a pair of RBI's each. Left hander CJ Wilson takes the ball to open the series with the Oakland Athletics on Thursday night. Wilson has thrown the ball well in three straight starts where he has gone 2-0 with 1.96 ERA.
