The Toronto Blue Jays and the new York Yankees face off on Sunday in Toronto as they close out their series.
The Toronto Blue Jays didn’t get a lot of offense on Saturday but it was more than enough to get the win against the visiting Yankees. Jose Bautista hit his 27th home run and Jose Reyes and Melky Cabrera were among those getting hits as the Blue Jays scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Drew Hutchison allowed just one hit and struck out nine over 7.0 innings to get the win and Aaron Sanchez earned the save. For Sunday’s game the Blue Jays start J.A. Happ who has lost his last three decisions. For the season Happ has allowed 123 hits and 58 earned runs while striking out 101 over 118.2 innings for a 8-record and a 4.40 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The New York Yankees never got the bats going on Saturday as they were shut out by the Blue Jays. Mark Teixeira got the lone Yankees hit and Carlos Beltran and Stephen Drew earned walks as the Yankees didn’t score on one hit. Starting pitcher Michael Pineda allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out three over 6.0 innings to take the loss. For Sunday’s game the Yankees start Brandon McCarthy who has lost three of his last four starts. For the season McCarthy has allowed 61 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 56 over 58.1 innings for a 5-3 record and a 2.47 ERA.
Toronto is 6-15 in game three of a series, 2-4 in their last six games, and 0-5 in Happ’s last five starts. New York is 7-3 in their last 10 games, 5-1 against a left-handed starter, and 5-2 in game three of a series. New York is 39-20 in their last 59 games against Toronto.
The Yankees bats should be better than they were on Saturday but I see the Jays being better once again.
