The New York Mets make the long trip to South Florida to take the field with the Miami Marlins.
The New York Mets have an opportunity to both reach .500 and secure third in the National League East if both the bats and arms can get on the same page. Only the bats showed up Sunday but that was just enough in a 6-5 victory over visiting Philadelphia. Dillon Gee was solid with three runs plated on seven hits over six innings but Jeurys Familia and Jenrry Mejia gave up a run each to make things tense. Anthony Recker swung the big bat with a three run jack while Matthew den Dekker and David Wright driving in runs. A red hot Zack Wheeler will get the call to the mound versus the Miami Marlins on Monday. Wheeler has been the Mets best option on the bump despite a 9-9 record and 3.44 ERA over 27 starts.

The Miami Marlins sit in third in the National League East but they have been fading with neither the work on the mound or at the plate being dependable. The offense shouldered the blame in Sunday's 1-0 defeat at the hands of Atlanta. Nathan Eovaldi was a hard luck loser with a solo homer served up to Evan Gattis being the only run scored through six innings. Even that was too much with the Fish mustering six hits with Donovan Solano rapping a pair of singles. The Marlins are scheduled to start Henderson Alvarez versus the New York Mets in the series opener. Alvarez has struggled the past two times out with nine runs plated on 18 hits over 12.1 frames.
Wheeler has an ERA of just over one versus Miami while Alvarez is a tough customer at home. Right now I'm looking at the under and watching the line...
