Starting pitcher Jacob Turner allowed five hits and a run while striking out seven over 6.1 innings to get the win and raise his record to 5-8 and Hector Rondon earned his 23rd save. The Milwaukee Brewers have now lost six games in a row and they are out of first place in the NL Central and on the brink of falling out of a Wildcard spot. On Monday Khris Davis and Gerardo Parra each hit home runs and Aramis Ramirez and Scooter Gennett each had hits as the Brewers scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson allowed nine hits and three runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 2-6 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Brewers start Yovani Gallardo who has won two of his last three decisions. For the season Gallardo has allowed 159 hits and 60 earned runs while striking out 122 over 165.2 innings for an 8-7 record and a 3.26 ERA.
Chicago is 6-2 against a team with a winning record, 4-12 in game two of a series, and 7-3 in Arrieta’s last 10 home starts. Milwaukee is 0-6 in their last six road games, 0-5 against a right-handed starter, and 3-9 in Gallardo’s last 12 starts. Milwaukee is 40-19 in their last 59 games against the Cubs.
Milwaukee has fallen to pieces but Arrieta has tailed off and this looks like a winnable spot for the Brewers so they can regroup for the final weeks of the season.
