The St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates face off o Tuesday in St, Louis for game two of their series.
The St. Louis Cardinals battled back on Monday to get the win against the Pirates and take over first place in the NL Central. Kolton Wong hit a pinch hit two run home run, Matt Holliday had two hits and three RBi’s, and Jin Jay had two hits and scored the winning run as the Cardinals scored five runs on 10 hits. Starting Lance Lynn allowed eight hits and three runs while striking out three over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Seth Maness got the win to go to 6-3 for the season and Trevor Rosenthal earned his 41st save. For Tuesday’s game the Cardinals start Adam Wainwright who has lost three of his last four starts. For the season Wainwright has allowed 154 hits and 54 earned runs while striking out 150 over 188 innings for a 15-9 record and a 2.59 ERA.

The Pittsburgh Pirates seemed to have Monday’s game in St. Louis in hand but they let it get away as the lost to the Cardinals. Andrew McCutchen hit a home run, Josh Harrison had two hits, and Neil Walker had a hit and knocked in two runs as the Pirates scored four runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Gerit Cole allowed eight hits and five runs while striking out four over 6.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 7-5 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Pirates start Jeff Locke who has been razor sharp in his last three starts going 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA. For the season Locke has allowed 101 hits over 105 innings for a 6-3 record and a 3.51 ERA.
St. Louis is 10-3 as a home favorite, 19-8 against the NL Central, and 17-8 in Wainwright’s last 25 starts. Pittsburgh is 15-5 in game two of a series, 2-9 in their last 11 road games, and 5-2 in Locke’s last seven starts as a road underdog. Pittsburgh is 1-6 in their last seven games in St. Louis.
Wainwright just hasn’t been right of late and I look for the Pirates to get revenge and the win.
