The Tampa Bay Rays welcome division rival the Toronto Blue Jays to Tropicana Field on Tuesday.
The time has come and gone for the Toronto Blue Jays to make a run in the AL East and even though we have seen this team red hot they have not been able to stay on top of their game over the long haul. The best this team can hope for is to stay above .500 which they managed with a 4-3 win over the Yankees on Sunday. JA Happ picked up the win with all three runs plated over seven innings pitched while Melky Cabrera, Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion all clubbed homers. Knuckleballer RA Dickey gets the call to the mound in game one of the series versus the Tampa Bay Rays. Dickey has been a bit up and down at times with a 10-12 record and 4.00 ERA in 28 starts.

The Tampa Bay Rays are in the same boat as their counterparts in that the time for them to make a run is over. The Rays had made a remarkable run to challenge in the American League East but simply ran out of gas. Tampa made a step towards reaching .500 with Monday's 4-3, ten inning win versus Boston. Drew Smyly allowed two runs through 5.2 frames with five relievers giving up a run the rest of the way. The offense produced nine hits and a pair of bases on balls with Evan Longoria driving in a pair of runs. Jeremy Hellickson makes his 9th start of 2014 when he toes the rubber versus the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday. In eight starts since coming off the disabled list Hellickson has gone 1-2 with 2.98 ERA.
I know Dickey can be up and down but I also know Hellickson can be unpredictable at times. I would be cautious in backing either team to be honest...
