The slumping Seattle Mariners need a road win versus the rival Oakland Athletics in early action on Wednesday.
The Seattle Mariners have been fading over the past week or so and need to right the ship as soon as possible to stay on pace for the Wild Card. The M's picked up a crucial 6-5 decision at Oakland Tuesday behind strong starting pitching and some early scoring. James Paxton picked up the win with a pair of runs given up over 7.2 innings while Fernando Rodney gave up a pair in the 9th. Kyle Seager clubbed a two run homer with Endy Chavez and Austin Jackson knocking in two runs apiece. Ace Felix Hernandez looks to pitch the Mariners out of their funk versus the Oakland Athletics Wednesday. Hernandez has been off his game a bit with ten runs plated over 22 innings in his last three starts.

The Oakland Athletics have enjoyed the view from atop the American League West for the majority of 2014 but need to regroup from their weekend series with the Angels which has them looking at the Wild Card instead of the division right now. The A's failed to get the job done Tuesday with the work on the mound struggling and the offense coming up short. Starter Sonny Gray allowed all six runs on seven hits through five innings to absorb the loss. Oakland totaled nine hits and three bases on balls with Craig Gentry plating a pair while Derek Norris scored twice. Left hander Jon Lester toes the rubber in Wednesday's finale' versus the Seattle Mariners. Lester has been a solid addition to the Athletics rotation with six quality starts since coming over from the Red Sox.
