The St Louis Cardinals begin a crucial series with the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park on Thursday.
The St Louis Cardinals have finally reached the top of the NL Central with a five game winning leading the way behind strong hitting. The work on the mound has been okay in this stretch but was outstanding in a 1-0 victory over the Pirates Wednesday. Starter Shelby Miller tossed a three hit shutout over seven frames with Trevor Rosenthal getting the win with a scoreless 9th. The offense was held to five hits and three BB with Peter Bourjols rapping a walkoff RBI single to score Yadier Molina. The Cardinals open the series on the bump with Michael Wacha who opposes the Milwaukee Brewers for the second time. Wacha is 5-5 on the season with a 2.79 ERA with 75 hits allowed over 90.1 frames.

The Milwaukee Brewers have been atop the National League Central virtually the entire season before falling to second following an eight game slide that capped off by a 6-2 loss to the Cubs on Wednesday. Matt Garza put his team behind the eight ball with all six runs plated on eight hits through three innings pitched. The Brewers mounted a ten hit attack that saw Logan Schafer and Lyle Overbay deliver run scoring hits but there were too many missed opportunities to score. Wily Peralta gets the call to the mound in the opener versus the St Louis Cardinals on Thursday. Peralta has been struggling the past two times out with 13 runs scored on 16 hits over eight innings.
Peralta has dominated the Cardinals but he has been struggling along with his team while St Louis is playing well. I am simply going with the hotter team as a dog...
