The New York Mets battle the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on Friday night.
The New York Mets have their eyes set on capturing third in the National League East and whether that comes about likely depends on whether the offense can keep up their scoring. The Mets have won four of six after squeezing by Miami 4-3 on Wednesday. Starter Jacob deGrom gave up a run over six innings but didn't get a decision. Kirk Nieuwenhuis paced a nine hit attack with a homer and two RBI's while Travis d'Arnaud drove in a run and scored. Bartolo Colon is scheduled to be on the bump versus the Cincinnati Reds in the series opener. Colon needs to rebound from a 7-2 loss at Philadelphia wher he gave up six runs over 5.1 innings.

The Cincinnati Reds were suposed to one of the main challengers in the National League Central but were derailed by injuries and poor play on the field. Things haven't been getting any better with defeats in four of five heading in to the last game of their interleague series at Baltimore and still didn't as the Orioles completed the sweep with a 9-7 win on Thursday. The Reds overcame a 6-0 1st inning hole to tie the score 7-7 before the pen failed them. Mike Leake gave up three homers and seven runs in four frames with Devin Mesoraco leading the offense with a 4-4 night including a homer and four RBI's. Cincinnati turns to Alfredo Simon on the hill Friday for his second meeting with the New York Mets. On the season Simon has gone 13-9 with a 3.28 and a 1.17 WHIP covering 27 starts where the Reds are 16-11.
Cincinnati has fallen off the map and even if I like them I wouldn't bet them because they are a money trap. I'll back them on paper only...
