The San Diego Padres continue their weekend series with the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.
The San Diego Padres drive to a winning record has been put on hold for the time being with three consecutive defeats where the runs have been difficult to come by. The Padres struggles at the plate continued with a 3-0 defeat at Coors Field Friday which saw a geat effort on the mound from Eric Stults go for naught. Stults gave up three runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings to fall to 6-16. The offense managed three hits and a base on balls with Abraham Almonte recording a single and double. Right hander Joe Wieland makes his first appearance for the Padres since 2012. In five career starts Wieland has logged a 0-4 record with a 4.55 ERA covering 27.2 innings of work.

The Colorado Rockies haven't been doing a lot of winning and a quick look at their record tells that story. That being said the Rockies have won three of four following Friday's win and they can thank starter Tyler Matzek for Friday's win. Matzek threw the best game of his young career with a complete game three hitter while walking one and striking out six. The Rockies offense received solo homers off the bats of Nolan Arenado and Drew Stubbs while Chalie Blackmon singled in another. Lefty Jorge De La Rosa squares off with the San Diego Padres for the third time this season. De La Rosa has been the most dependable hurler in the Rockies rotation with a 13-10 record and 4.26 ERA.
There is no telling what we'll see from Joe Weiland but De La Rosa has fared well versus the Padres who have been struggling at the plate so I'm backing the home team although I don't think laying the chalk is great...
