The Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates collide at Wrigley Field in National League Central action Sunday.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are in a position where they either win now and make a run or fade away. If the Pirates make a run they will need their offense to pick it up and take some pressure off the pitching. The Pirates did just that in a 5-0 victory at Wrigley Field Saturday with plenty of everything. Francisco Liriano came up big on the mound with six scoreless frames while wiffing nine to improve to 4-10. Jordy Mercer paced an eleven hit attack with a homer and two RBI's while Andrew McCutchen knocked in a run and scored. Gerrit Cole gets the ball Sunday versus the rival Chicago Cubs for the second time in 2014. Cole is hoping to bounce back from a 5-4 loss to the Cardinals where he allowed all five runs in 6.1 frames.

The Chicago Cubs are destined to end 2014 in the National League Central basement but with that being said I think the season has shown to be an improvement for a team unaccustomed to success. The bats never got their footing Saturday and the relief corps struggled with starter Felix Doubront allowing a pair of runs through five innings. The pen saw three relievers give up a run apiece which was too much to overcome with six hits to lean on. Left hander Travis Wood gets the call to the mound to face the Pittsburgh Pirates for the 4th time. On the season Wood has gone 8-11 with a 4.81 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 28 starts where the Cubs are 14-14.

I don't think we can overlook Wood here because he does come up big from time to time. I am going with Pittsburgh however who can't afford to lose too many...
