The Miami marlins fought all season for a post season spot and while they aren’t going to make it we saw the same fight in their win in Milwaukee on Monday. Giancarlo Stanton, Marcell Ozuna, and Garrett Jones each hit home runs as the Marlins scored six runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Brad Penny allowed four hits and two runs while striking out just one over 6.0 innings to get the win to go to 2-1 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Marlins start Tom Koehler who has no decisions in his last three starts. For the season Koehler has allowed 150 hits and 70 earned runs while striking out 136 over 168.1 innings for a 9-9 record and a 3.74 ERA.
Milwaukee is 2-7 in their last nine home games, 3-15 in their last 18 games, and 7-3 in Garza’s last 10 home starts. Miami is 2-4 in their last six road games, 1-6 in game two of a series, and 0-4 in Koehler’s last four starts as an underdog. Miami is 8-21 in their last 29 meetings with Milwaukee.
On the surface Garza is usually a decent choice but the Brewers are playing poorly enough to take the Marlins in this spot and not think twice about it.
