The San Francisco Giants hope to pick up a game in the standings with another win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are going to have plenty of chances to upset the playoff plans of many teams in the closing weeks but they certainly didn't come close in Tuesday's 5-1 loss at San Francisco. This was a game I thought the Snakes had a shot in but Wade Miley had almost nothing with three runs plated on five hits and four walks over just two innings to fall to 7-11. That essentially ended this with the bats producing only four hits with Ender Inciarte going solo. The Diamondbacks turn to Josh Collmenter on the hill who opposes the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday. Collmenter has been hot the last three times out with a 2-0 record and 0.83 ERA.

The San Francisco Giants are ready to pounce in the National League West should the Dodgers falter which they did Tuesday with their rivals losing at San Diego. Both the arms and bats were at their best although not many runs were needed with starter Yusmeiro Petit in complete control with a complete game performance with a homer allowed while striking out nine. The Giants hammered out 12 hits and walked four times that saw Buster Posey knock in a pair of runs. Ryan Vogelsong gets the call to the hill versus the Arizona Diamondbacks for the 4th time in 2014. Vogelsong is looking to rebound from a 9-2 loss at Colorado where he gave up eight runs in five innings.
Backing the Diamondbacks is hoping the offense score some runs and the pitching controls the scoreboard but that's wishful thinking at times. Vogelsong has struggles versus Arizona so you might think the visitors have a shot but don't have too much faith...
