NL West rivals the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks square off at Chase Field on Saturday.
The San Diego Padres made a valiant run to reach .500 but they have struggled the past few weeks and need to win virtuall everytime out to achieve their goal. The Padres offense put up some rare support in a 6-5 win at Chase Field Friday. The support was needed with starter Eric Stults allowing five runs over six innings which was still a winning effort. The offense did their damage on eleven hits with Rene Rivera going deep while six knocked in runs and five scored. The Padres are scheduled to send Tyson Ross to the bump against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ross has posted a rock solid 2.66 ERA over 30 outings where he has gone 13-13 because he hasn't gotten much support.

The Arizona Diamondbacks don't have too many achieveable goals but the players are competing for jobs which should be plenty of motivation. The work on the mound put the Snakes behind the eight ball and a big rally fell just short. Vidal Nuno was charged with all six runs on eight hits through five innings to take the loss. The Diamondbacks mustered ten hits with AJ Polllock going 3-4 with a grand slam that erased a 6-1 deficit. Chase Anderson toes the rubber versus the San Diego Padres in game two of their series. Anderson has gone 9-6 overall with a 3.71 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP covering 19 starts where Arizona is 10-9.
There isn't much of an advantage to go on unless San Diego continues to hit because they have the pitching edge. I'll back them based on being the better team...
