The Milwaukee Brewers and the Cincinnati Reds face off on Sunday as they close out their series at Miller Park.
The Milwaukee Brewers continued their fade on Saturday as they lost to the Reds at home. Aramis Ramirez and Hector Gomez each had hits as the Brwers scored one run on two hits. Starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo allowed four hits and two runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to take the loss. For Sunday’s game the Brewers start Matt Garza who has a loss and a no decision since returning from the DL. For the season Garza has allowed 136 hits and 65 earned runs while striking out 114 over 152.2 innings for a 7-8 record and a 3.83 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The Cincinnati Reds never recovered from Joey Votto’s injury as they won’t come close to the post season this year but they looked sharp on Saturday beating the Brewers. Todd Frazier had three hits and Devin Meseraco, Brandon Phillips, and Billy Hamilton each had hits as the Reds scored five runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher David Holmberg allowed two hits and a run while striking out four over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 1-1 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Reds start Mike Leake who has won his last two decisions. For the season Leake has allowed 200 hits and 79 earned runs while striking out 149 over 196.1 innings for an 11-11 record and a 3.62 ERA.
Milwaukee is 3-8 against a team with a losing record, 4-14 in their last 18 games, and 0-4 in Garza’s last four starts. Cincinnati is 3-5 as an underdog, 7-23 in their last 30 road games, and 1-6 in Leake’s last seven road starts. Cincinnati is 1-4 in their last five games against Milwaukee.
The Brewers are just in collapse mode and it is just tough to take them these days so my play is on the Reds.
