The Seattle Mariners hope to send the division rival Oakland Athletics on their way with third in the West.
The Oakland Athletics have really hit the skids over the past month as they dropped from first in the West to second and are trying to fight off Seattle to avoid falling to third. The A's fought off the Mariners for another day with a 3-2, ten inning victory. Sonny Gray came up big on the hill with both runs plated over eight frames but did not get a decision. An eight hit attack saw Josh Donaldso homer with Jed Lowrie and Eric Sogard driving in runs. Left hander Jon Lester is charged with controlling the Seattle Mariners in the final game of their series on Sunday. Lester has put up outstanding numbers the entire season with a 14-10 record and 2.52 ERA.

The Seattle Mariners have hung around in the American League West all season long and but their opportunity to move past Oakland in to second in the American League West didn't work out with an extra inning defeat. Even Felix Hernandez couldn't save the Mariners despite an outstanding performance with two runs scored with eight strikeouts through seven innings. The loss went to Fernando Rodney who walked four to plate a run to fall to 1-6. The M's mustered five hits and walked twice with Robinson Cano going deep while Christopher Taylor rapped an RBI single. Veteran Chris Young toes the rubber versus the Oakland Athletics in Sunday afternoon action. Young has been struggling over his last three with an 0-1 record and 7.71 ERA with a WHIP of 2.68.
With Young having a big season I'm tempted to go with Seattle who is the better team in my eyes but I'll give Lester and Oakland the nod here. No bet for me because the A's are falling apart...
