The Colorado Rockies host the Los Angeles Dodgers for a three game series in the NL West.
The Los Angeles Dodgers were shut out on Friday in San Francisco, but they responded with a 17-0 shut out of their own on Saturday and proceeded to win the series with a 4-2 win on Sunday. The win gave the Dodgers a three game edge in the NL West race over the Giants, which appears to be a comfortable margin with ten of the Dodgers next 13 games coming against sub-.500 competition to close the season. In Sunday’s win, Clayton Kershaw won his 19th game allowing two runs over eight innings and the offense backed their ace with nine hits. Matt Kemp hit his 20th HR on a two run shot, Dee Gordon had two hits, and Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford each doubled in the win.
USA TODAY Sports
The Dodgers will start Roberto Hernandez to open up Monday’s series. Hernandez hasn’t been great since coming to the Dodgers from Philly and is coming off two particularly bad starts. For the season Hernandez has WHIP of 1.34 and ERA of 4.04 while posting an 8-11 record. The righty Hernandez has a 7.45 ERA across two starts and 9.2 innings against the Rockies this season.
The Colorado Rockies have been a train wreck on the road this season as they enter this contest on a six game losing streak after losing all six games on their recent road trip to the Mets and Cardinals. Things have gone better for Colorado at Coor’s Field though where they are 39-35 on the season. In Sunday’s 4-1 loss in St. Louis, Jordan Lyles booked the loss allowing three runs on nine hits over six innings and the offense didn’t provide much support with just five total hits. Brandon Barnes had two hits and drove in a run and Drew Stubbs tripled as the Rockies went 0-7 with runners in scoring position.
The Rockies will hand the ball to the rookie right-hander Christian Bergman to start their series with LA. Bergman is making his eighth start of the year and enters this contest with a WHIP of 1.50 and ERA of 4.89 while posting a 2-3 record. Bergman has not faced the Dodgers but has struggled at Coor’s Field with an ERA of 6.33 over four starts and 21.1 innings.
The line has yet to be released but it will be hard to convince me not to take the over even listed at 11.5 where I would expect the market to land on this game.
