The Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers face off on Tuesday at Target Field for game two of their series.
The Minnesota Twins battled back late but failed to get the win as they lost to the Tigers on Monday. Owaldo Arcia hit a home run and Joe Mauer, Daniel Santana, and Kurt Suzuki each had two hits as the Twins scored six runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Anthony Swarzal allowed 11 hits and six runs while striking out two over 4.1 innings to not get a decision as Casey Fien took the loss. For Tuesday’s game the Twins start Ricky Nolasco who has lost his last five decisions. For the season Nolasco has allowed 184 hits and 88 earned runs while striking out 99 over 140.1 innings for a 5-11 record and a 5.64 ERA.

The Detroit Tigers got a much needed win on Monday scoring two runs in the top of the ninth inning. Miguel Cabrera and Torii Hunter each hit home runs and J.D. Martinez and Andrew Romine each had three hits as the Tigers scored eight runs on 16 hits. Starting pitcher Max Scherzer allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out five over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as Phil Coke blew the save, Kyle Ryan got the win, and Joakim Soria earned his 18th save. For Tuesday’s game the Tigers start Rick Porcello who has lost his last three starts. For the season Porcello has allowed 189 hits and 68 earned runs while striking out 117 over 189.2 innings for a 15-11 record and a 3.23 ERA.
Minnesota is 22-47 as an underdog, 8-21 in their last 29 games, and 0-7 in Nolasco’s last seven starts. Detroit is 7-1 in their last eight games, 8-3 in their last 11 road games, and 1-4 in Porcello’s last five road starts. Detroit is 25 -11 in their last 36 games in Minnesota.
