The Oakland Athletics look to move closer to wrapping up a Wild Card berth with a win over the Texas Rangers.
The Texas Rangers have nothing to play for except pride at this point and perhaps spoiling the jopes of playoff contenders on the schedule. Texas probably ended Atlanta's postseason dreams by sweeping the Braves over the weekend after Sunday's 10-3 rout. Colby Lewis gave up a single run on a homer over five frames to up his record to 10-13. The Rangers amassed 18 hits with Luis Sardinas knocking in four while Michael Choice drove in three more. The Rangers go with Nick Tepesch on the hill to face the dangerous offense of the Oakland Athletics. Tepesch is 0-2 in hiis last three outings while posting a 4.60 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in this stretch.

The Oakland Athletics have been fading for awhile now and were on the verge of dropping to third in the American League West before winning back to back contests at Seattle this weekend. The A's picked up a 4-0 victory over the Mariners behind another great outing from John Lester and a few clutch hits. Lester improved to 15-10 with six scoreless innings while striking out seven. The Athletics relied on the long ball with Sam Fuld going deep and driving in two with Brandon Moss smacking his 24th. Left hander Scott Kazmir looks to contain the Texas Rangers offense in the series opener Tuesday. Kazmir is coming in off of a 1-0 loss to the White Sox with a solo homer allowed in eight innings.
Way too much chalk on an Oakland squad who has been fading badly. I don't know if I have enough confidence in this team to bet them so take this for what it's worth...
