The surging Detroit Tigers look to keep the momentum going versus the Minnesota Twins.
The Detroit Tigers have overtaken Kansas City for the top spot in the American League Central. The Tigers saw their four game winning streak end as a three run rally went for naught with the Twins coming back to win it 4-3. Rick Porcello gave up a pair of runs over eight frames before Joe Nathan gave up two in the 9th to take the loss. The Tigers offense was shutout until the 9th when JD Martinez cracked a three run bomb for a shortlived lead. Left hander David Price will be on the hill versus the Minnesota Twins for the third time in 2014. Over his last three trips to the bump Price is 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP over 23.1 frames.

The Minnesota Twins have been struggling to get their pitching going over the past several weeks which has resulted in defeats in eight of ten before a wild 9th gave the Twins a rare win. Starter Ricky Nolasco tossed eight scoreless innings before Glen Perkins served up a three run jack and ironically getting the win when the offense rallied for walkoff win. Minnesota totaled nine hits and three walks with Kennys Vargas going deep with Kurt Suzuki knocking in a pair. Minnesota hopes Kyle Gibson can right the ship when he opposes the heavy hitting Detroit Tigers. Gibson has given up eleven runs on 14 hits covering ten innings with both ending up in the win column.
