The San Diego Padres and Philadelphia Phillies take the field for game two of their series at Petco Park.
As a Philadelphia fan I know the city would like to see a hot streak to end the season although we are actually thinking about 2015 already. The Phillies were close but no cigar Tuesday in a 5-4 defeat at San Diego with starter AJ Burnett putting his team in a hole with five runs plated (four earned) over 5.2 frames to fall to 8-17 on the year. Domonic Brown homered and Freddy Galvis went deep with a pair of RBI's and two runs. Lefty Cole Hamels squares off with the San Diego Padres for the second time on the year. Hamels has been the ace of the Philadelphia rotation with an 8-7 record and 2.51 ERA in 27 outings.

San Diego is going to finish third in the National League West regardless of whether they are hot or cold to end the season. The Padres squeezed by the visiting Phillies Tuesday behind some rare offensive punch and a solid effort on the mound from Ian Kennedy. Kennedy improved to 11-13 with three runs scored on three hits and four free passes through six innings. San Diego produced ten hits and walked five times with Alexi Amarista going 3-4 with a homer and a pair of RBI's. Eric Stults toes the rubber against the Philadelphia Phillies for the second time this year. Stults has struggled to win in 2014 with a 7-16 record and 4.49 ERA over 29 outings where the Padres are 11-18.
Hamels is one of the best in the game although his record doesn't show it because his support is lacking and that's the danger in backing him here...
