The Oakland Athletics hope to right the ship with a win in game two of their series versus the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Philadelphia Phillies seem to be playing out the string with nothing to play for and plenty of questions regarding the future of this team. That didn't stop the Phillies from giving Oakland problems in a 3-1 defeat in the series opener. The offense failed to support starter David Buchanan who surrendered all three runs over 6.2 frames. The Phils offense never got going on six hits with the lone run coming on Ryan Howard's solo homer in the 4th. Jerome Williams takes the mound against the Oakland Athletics for the second time this season. Williams is coming in off of a 1-0 loss at San Diego where he gave up an unearned run over seven frames.

The Oakland Athletics are fighting for their postseason lives as they been fading badly with neither the arms or bats being able to win on their lonesome. The pitching did win Friday's bout with Philadelphia as starter Jon Lester continued to be the best acquisition Oakland made at the trade dead line. Lester gave up a solo bomb through seven innings to pick up the win while a three run second was all the support he needed. Coco Crisp, Jed Lowrie and Eric Sogard drove in runs but the bats were silent otherwise. Drew Pomeranz toes the rubber versus the Philadelphia Phillies for the first time in two years. Pomeranz hasn't started since 8-27 where he received a ND in a 5-4 win versus Houston with an unearned run plated in 5.1 innings.
I see the Athletics are big favorites but nothing about their play lately says they should be. I do think they have the advantage here but betting them as big chalk is not a good idea...
