The St Louis Cardinals can move a step closer to the NL Central title with another win versus the Cincinnati Reds.
The Cincinnati Reds look to avoid getting swept at the hands of hated rival St Louis if they can get the arms and bats going which didn't happen in Saturday's 8-4 defeat. Starter Mike Leake put his team in an early hole with six runs plated over five innings to take the loss. The bats ustered eight hits with Zack Cozart clubbinng his third homer while scoring twice. Cincinnati had a few opportunities to do more damage but missed out. Cincinnati sends Alfredo Simon to the hill to oppose the St Louis Cardinals for the third time this year. Simon has gone 14-10 with 3.35 ERA and 1.19 WHIP covering 30 starts where the Reds are 17-13.

The St Louis Cardinals have been doing their part to nail down the National League Central after Saturday's win was their 7th in eight contests where both the pitching and hitting contributing. That trend continued Saturday with starter Michael Wacha allowing a pair of runs through 4.2 innings with Marco Gonzales giving up two more but four relievers held the Reds off the scoreboard. The Cardinals rode the long ball in this one with Kolten Wong, Randal Grichuk and Tony Cruz going deep and driving in all eight runs. St Louis gives Sunday's start versus the Cincinnati Reds to Lance Lynn who has been one of the steadiest members of the rotation. Lynn has not allowed more then a run in three straight outings and has posted quality starts in nine of ten.
I'm leaning Cardinals here because they are hot, Lynn is throwing well and the division is not locked up yet so they want and need this...
