The Toronto Blue Jays look to deal the Seattle Mariners postseason hopes a blow with a win at the Rogers Centre.
The Seattle Mariners have had ample opportunity to take over third in the AL West but the offense and pitching haven't been in top form. The Mariners had troubles on the mound and at the plate in Sunday's 8-3 defeat at Houston on Sunday. Hisashi Iwakuma didn't have his best stuff with four runs plated over 4.1 innings while striking out eight. Three relievers let this one get out of hand with four runs scored while the offense posted seven hits which was well short. Michael Saunders homered and drove in two while scoring twice. Left James Paxton is scheduled to be on the hill versus the Toronto Blue Jays for the first time in his career. On the season Paxton is 6-3 with a 2.06 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over eleven outings.

The Toronto Blue Jays had their chance at the playoffs but those times have come and gone with the work on the mound and plate failing to get on the same page. Neither were on the same page Sunday in a 5-2 road loss to the Yankees. Drew Hutchison was charged with the loss with a pair of solo homers served up through four innings. The Blue Jays managed seven hits with Jose Reyes going 3-4 with a pair of runs Edwin Encarnacion posting a pair of hits with an RBI. JA Happ gets the call to the mound for Monday's match up with the Seattle Mariners for the second time. Happ is in need of a rebound from a 6-1 loss at Baltimore where he gave up five runs in six frames.
The Blue Jays are out of the postseason conversation and the Mariners will be joing them soon if they don't start hitting and pitching. I'll back Seattle but it's probably risky right now...
