Petco Park and the San Diego Padres collide with the Colorado Rockies for the second straight day.
The Colorado Rockies have nothing to play for but pride and to their dredit they have been playing well. The Rockies hot streak came to an end Monday as they did everything but score in a 1-0 defeat at Petco Park. Starter Tyler Matzek was outstanding with the only run scored on four hits over six frames while striking out eight in what turned out to be a losing effort. The offense mustered ten hits with Justin Morneau and DL LeMahieu recording a pair of hits each but nobody came through in the clutch. Left hander Jorge De La Rosa faces the San Diego Padres for the 4th time in 2014. De La Rosa has been the Rockies best option on the mound with a 14-11 record and 4.14 ERA in 31 starts.

The San Diego Padres have not come close to the postseason for quite awhile but with their pitching and the addition of a few bats that could change. The Padres pitching came up big once again with starter Eric Stults giving up seven hits through 6.1 scoreless innings to pick up the win. Four relievers held the fort and Rene Rivera's RBI double that scored Jedd Gyorko proved to be the game winner. Robbie Erlin has been a spot starter and makes his second straight versus the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night. Erlin is coming in off of a 7-3 victory over the Phillies with a run given up in six frames.
San Diego is far and away the better team although there is not a night and day difference right now with both squads playing their best. This looks like a toss up so I'm taking the better odds...
