The San Diego Padres finish off their series with the Colorado Rockies at Petco Park on Wednesday.
The Colorado Rockies have been playing well and over the past week they have been getting above average hitting and pitching in this stretch. The Rockies stayed hot with a 3-2 victory at San Diego Tuesday to even their series. Jorge De La Rosa was at his best with both runs plated on seven hits while whiffing seven over six frames. Colorado posted eight hits with Drew Stubbs going deep with Justin Morneau and DJ LeMahieudriving in runs. Left hander Yohan Flande makes 9th start of 2014 and second against the San Diego Padres. Flande has yet to win this year and is 0-5 with an ERA just south of five with the team going 2-7 in his outings.
USA TODAY Sports
The San Diego Padres won't finish the season with a .500 record but they have still shown improvement over year's past behind a very good pitching staff and lately the hitting has chipped in leading to wins in seven of ten before the offense went silent Tuesday night. Robbie Erlin allowed two runs on six hits and a pair of free passes through four innings with Dale Thayer serving up a solo bomb in the 8th to absorb the loss. San Diego totaled nine hits and six walks but never broke things open. Rymer Liriano and Alexi Amarista drove in runs but there were many opportunities to do more damage. Joe Weiland makes his second start of the season with the other also coming against the Colorado Rockies. Weiland dropped a 7-6 decision in that one with four runs scored over 2.1 innings.
This looks like another coin flip so like Tuesday I think I'll side with the better odds between equally hot teams...
