The Oakland Athletics begin the final series of the regular season with a trip to the Texas Rangers Thursday.
The Oakland Athletics season boils down to what they do in the final four games of the year. Things continued to go the wrong way in a 5-4 loss to the Angels on Wednesday. Jon Lester was charged with all five runs (two earned) on eight hits over seven innings to absorb the loss. Oakland mustered nine hits and made things interesting with a four run 7th that saw Josh Reddick drive in a pair. The Athletics hand the ball to Jason Hammel who faces the Texas Rangers for the second in 2014. Since coming over from the Cubs Hammel has gone 2-6 with a 4.52 ERA over eleven innings.

The Texas Rangers are at the top of their game over the last few weeks with both their pitching and hitting on the same page in this stretch. The Rangers remained at the top of their game with a four run 7th leading to a 5-1 win over Houston on Wednesday for their 11th win in 12 contests. Lisalverto Bonilla was dominat with with a four hit shutout through six innings to get the win. The Rangers totaled six hits and six walks with Ryan Rua cracking a three run homer with Roughned Odor adding a solo blast. Colby Lewis draws the series opening start versus the Oakland Athletics for the second time this year. Lewis is looking to bounce back from an 8-5 loss to the Angels where allowed all eight runs in five frames.
The Athletics have an advantage in everywhere but that's been the case a lot lately and we know how that's gone so I'll take the hot Rangers at great odds...
