The New York Mets and the Houston Astros face off on Saturday as they play game two of their final series of the 2014 season.
The New York Mets appear to have a bright future but we saw that the future isn’t now as they lost to the Astros on Friday. Curtis Granderson hit a home run and Lucas Duda and Eric Young had hits as the Mets scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher Jon Niese allowed three hits and struck out four over 5.1 scoreless innings to not get a decision as Carlos Torres took the loss. For Saturday’s game the Mets start Rafael Montero who is 1-3 with a 4.38 ERA for the season and 1-1 with a 3.06 ERA in his last three starts.

The Houston Astros made big strides this year and we saw more of that on Friday as they took down the Mets in New York. Jose Altuve, Robbie Grossman, and Chris Carter all had hits as the Astros scored three runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Brad Peacock allowed four hits and a run while striking out seven over 4.2 innings to not get a decision as Kevin Chapman got the win. For Saturday’s game the Astros start Samuel Deduno who is 2-6 with a 4.66 ERA for the season and 1-2 with a 11.81 ERA in his last three starts.
New York is 5-0 in game two of a series, 7-3 against a team with a losing record, and 1-6 in Montero’s last seven starts. Houston is 3-7 in their last 10 games, 2-5 as a road underdog, and 24-56 against the NL East. Houston is 11-23 in their last 34 games in New York.
The Mets couldn’t get the bats going Friday but that should change against Deduno and they are my play here.
