The Detroit Tigers and the Minnesota Twins face off on Sunday in a meaningful game on the final day of the 2014 MLB season.
The Detroit Tigers still haven’t clinched the AL Central although the Royals lost the Tigers were crushed by the Twins. Nick Castellanos hit a home run and Torrii Hunter, Miguel Cabrera, and Don Kelly each had hits as the Tigers scored three runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Kyle Lobstein had a rough night allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out four over 4.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-2 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Tigers start David Price who is 14-12 with a 3.36 ERA this season and 1-1 with a 3.68 ERA in his last three starts.

The Minnesota Twins don’t have much to play for at this point but they have a chance to play spoiler like they did on Saturday. Brian Dozier and Eduardo Escobar each hit home runs and Joe Mauer and Oswaldo Arcia each had two hits as the Twins scored 12 runs on 16 hits. Starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco allowed five hits and two runs while striking out six over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 6-12 for the year. For Sunday’s game the Twins stat Kyle Gibson who is 13-11 with a 4.50 ERA for the season and 2-1 with a 6.75 ERA in his last three starts.
Detroit is 9-4 in their last 13 home games, 6-3 at home against a team with a losing record, and 5-2 against a right handed starter. Minnesota is 7-16 against a left-handed starter, 3-5 in their last eight road games, and 2-5 in Gibson’s last seven starts.
The odds are huge here but I have to believe Price delivers for the Tigers.
