The Detroit Tigers have won six of their last 10 games and needed all 162 games to win their division and avoid being a wild card team. The Tigers are one of the most explosive offensive teams in all of baseball led by Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez, a duo that has produced 33 RBIs in the month of September. The Tigers have won 16 of their last 19 games when scoring more than three runs, and they’ve scored the second most runs in baseball and have the best batting average at .277 as a team. Rajai Davis, who has 51 RBIs and a batting average of .282, is questionable for this series with a groin injury. Getting the ball for the Detroit Tigers will be Max Scherzer, who is 15-8 with a 3.15 ERA and has 252 strikeouts in 220.1 innings. In the postseason, Scherzer is 4-2 with a 3.42 ERA and has 74 strikeouts in 55.1 innings.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the Baltimore Orioles come out of the gate given the fact they dominated the AL East and were able to take their foot off the gas a while ago. The Orioles have lost six of their last 10 games and have been held to three or less runs in five of their last eight games. While that’s not impressive, the Orioles are eighth in the league in runs scored and ninth in batting average, as a combination of Nelson Cruz and Adam Jones has produced more than 200 RBIs. While the Orioles don’t have as many household names as the Tigers, especially with no Chris Davis and Manny Machado, they’re still awfully dangerous when playing to their potential. Taking the mound for Baltimore is Chris Tillman, who is 13-6 with a 3.34 ERA and has 150 strikeouts in 207.1 innings. This will be the first time Tillman has ever pitched in the postseason.
I'm worried about Tillman never pitching in the playoffs, but Baltimore has been waiting for this moment for quite some time and are going to create an electric atmosphere. Give me the O's to take game 1 of this series.
