The Kansas City Royals open the ALCS at Camden Yards versus the Baltimore Orioles Friday.
The Kansas City Royals road to the ALCS appeared to be daunting with a come from behind victory over Oakland in extra innings in the Wild Card only to face the well rested Angels. The Angels stormed to the American League West title and were the best team in baseball during the regular season but the Royals showed that anything can happen in a short series by sweeping Los Angeles in three games. KC outscore the LAA 15-6 with the the big number to me being the six runs alowed to the big offense of the West champs as James Shields, Jason Vargas and Yordano Ventura made life easy for the bats. James Shields gets the ball in the opener and has a 3.21 ERA in two starts versus the Orioles in 2014.

The Baltimore Orioles took over the American League East after the All Star break and were really never challenged. While the division didn't seem to be as strong as usual the Orioles were clearly the best team and proved it with a power hitting lineup and a rotation that wasn't deemed elite but just good enough to win. The baseball world might want to look at this team's pitching once again however because this group handled the powerful offense of the Detroit Tigers in sweeping their ALDS by a combined score of 21-10. Baltimore cracked four homers versus the Tigers but as in the regular season their pitching can be sneaky good and the offense can suddenly erupt without notice. Chris Tillman looks to duplicate his 12-3 win over the Tigers in the ALDS opener where he gave up two runs in five innings.
I've said this before but for whatever reason the Orioles score and win with Tillman on the mound. Hopefully he does it again...
