The Line: Kansas City Royals / Baltimore Orioles --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

The Baltimore Orioles hope to avoid getting swept in the ALCS with a win over the Kansas City Royals Wednesday.

The Baltimore Orioles haven't really faced much adversity after the All Star break because quite honestly they were the only good team in the American League East. No adversity in the ALDS as the Tigers didn't do enough to make this team sweat. However Kansas City is putting the squeeze on after a 2-1 decision has the Birds staring at an 0-3 deficit and elimination. The work on the mound by Wei-Yin Chen was obviously good enough to win with two runs scored on seven hits and a free pass over 5.1 frames which was nothing but a loss. Kevin Gausman kept the O's alive with 2.2 scoreless innings but the offense never got going. The offense mustered three hits and a pair of BB with JJ Hardy driving in Steve Pearce with the lone run. Baltimore turns to Miguel Gonzalez to prevent the sweep in the ALCS by the Kansas City Royals. Gonzalez has not started in the postseason and overall has gone 10-9 with a 3.23 ERA over 26 outings.

As I always say in baseball, if there is a such thing as momentum the Kansas City Royals should have it since their impromptu victory over Oakland in the Wild Card. Kansas City has just come up clutch at the plate and have been just as good on the mound at the biggest an most pressure packed part of the season. The Royals came up big once again Tuesday and are now one game away from the World Series. Starter Jeremy Guthrie was at his very best with the lone run allowed on three hits and a pair of bases on balls through five innings to get the win while four relievers held the Orioles offense at bay. Billy Butler and Alex Gordon drove Jarrod Dyson and Lorenzo Cain which was just enough to get the win. Left hander Jason Vargas gets the call to the mound Wednesday versus the Baltimore Orioles for his sescond playoff outing. Vargas faced the Angels in the ALDS and allowed two runs on three hits incuding a pair of homers in six innings of a 3-2 win.

The Orioles are 2-6 in their last eight visits to Kansas City and 0-5 in their last five. The under has gone 6-1-1 in the last eight at Kauffman Stadium and is 12-5-1 in the last 18 at Kansas City overall. I see a ton of trends that strongly favor each team but I'm not sure they mean anything at this point.

I mentioned momentum earlier and I feel baseball is the most difficult to carry the 'momentum' label because it's difficult to hit a round ball with a round bat. I do get the feeling that certain teams are just destined to win and Kansas City seems like they have that mojo and I am not stepping in front of this train here...
