The St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants will play game four of the NLCS Wednesday night at AT&T Park.
This is pretty much a must win for the St. Louis Cardinals, a team that can’t afford to drop to 3-1 in the series. The good news for the Cardinals is that others are starting to contribute offensively, as they’ve produced nine runs in their last two games. Jon Jay has four hits in his last two games and Kolten Wong has three RBIs in his last two games. It’s no longer just the Matt Carpenter show for St. Louis, although he has hit safely in each game of this series. The bad news for the Cardinals is that Yadier Molina is again doubtful with an injury and the Giants continue to find ways to match their offensive production. A.J. Pierzynski was 0-4 with a strikeout in replace of Molina in game three. Taking the hill for the St. Louis Cardinals is Shelby Miller, who is 10-9 with a 3.74 ERA and has 127 strikeouts in 183 innings. In this postseason, Miller is 0-0 with a 3.18 ERA and has four strikeouts in 5.2 innings.

The San Francisco Giants opened game three up with a 4-0 lead and didn’t score again until a throwing error in the 10th inning. The Giants continue to get production from just about everybody when they need it most. The star for the Giants in this series has been Travis Ishikawa, who has four hits and four RBIs in the first three games. Buster Posey has hit safely in seven of the eight postseason games and Pablo Sandoval has 11 hits and three walks this postseason. While it doesn't happen often, the Giants have won 13 of their last 14 games when scoring more than three runs. Taking the hill for the San Francisco Giants will be Ryan Vogelsong, who is 8-13 with a 4.00 ERA and has 151 strikeouts in 184.2 innings. In this postseason, Vogelsong is 0-0 with a 1.59 ERA and has four strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
The Cardinals are 4-0 in their last 4 games following a loss, 4-10 in their last 14 playoff road games and 5-1 in Millers last 6 starts. The Giants are 4-0 in their last 4 League Championship home games, 22-8 in their last 30 playoff games overall and 3-7 in Vogelsongs last 10 starts.
It's tough to beat the Giants at home in the playoffs period. But a night home playoff game just gives me a vibe that the Giants are going to win this game as well. The Giants are just too good and too experienced in these situations to let the Cardinals back in this series. Look for San Fran to inch one step closer to the World Series.
