The Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins will face off in the closing game of their 3 game series this Wednesday night at Marlins Park.
The Atlanta Braves exploded for 7 runs in the 1st inning and defeated the Miami Marlins 12-2 last night. Atlanta batted around in the 1st inning on 6 hits and 3 walks and finished the game with an impressive 14 hits. Leading the way for the Braves was Freddie Freeman (3-5, 2 R, 2 RBI’s) and Andrelton Simmons (3-5, 1 R, 2RBI’s). Atlanta was an impressive 9-16 with RISP in the victory. The Braves started Alex Wood (1-0; 3.60 ERA) who was able to coast through 5.0 innings of work while giving up two runs on four hits and 3 walks while striking out 4. Cody Martin, who made his MLB Debut for the Braves coming out of the bullpen, was impressive as he went 2.0 innings while giving just 1 hit while striking out 4.

The Miami Marlins has high expectations coming into the season and have to be disappointed in dropping their first two at home against an Atlanta Braves team that is projected to be at the bottom of the NL East standings at the end year. Mat Latos (0-1; 94.50 ERA), who the Marlins acquired from Cincinnati, had an awful beginning to his Marlins career as he couldn’t get out of the first inning. Latos finished the day going just 0.2 innings while giving up 7 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks. It was a bad day for another pitcher that the Marlins will be counting on this year, as their closer, Steve Cishek, went only 0.1 innings while giving up 4 earned runs. Brad Hand pitched well in relief going 4.1 innings while giving up no runs on just 1 hit and 1 walk. Leading the way for the offensive for Miami was Christian Yelich (2-4) and Giancarlo Stanton (0-1; 3 BB).
The Braves are 4-0 in their last 4 games as a road underdog and 7-3 in their last 10 during game 3 of a series. The Marlins are 7-3 in their last 10 games as a favorite of -110 to -150 and just 2-6 in their last 8 home games.
The Braves will go with Shelby Miller who went 10-9 with a 3.74 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with the Cardinals in 2014. The Marlins will be going with Tom Koehler pitched 191 innings for the Marlins last year while going 10-10 with a 3.81 ERA. Shelby Miller is one of the beginning parts of the Atlanta Braves rebuilding process and although I think Miami will start picking up some wins sooner than later, I don’t have a lot of confidence in Koehler in this one as he doesn’t really have much stuff that can put away hitters. I think the Atlanta bats stay hot and that they start off with a surprising sweep against the Marlins. Take Atlanta.
