The Baltimore Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays will finish their 3 game series this Wednesday Night at Tropicana Field.
The Baltimore Orioles jumped all over the Tampa Bay Rays in this one, going up 6-0 by the end of the 2nd innings and barley hung on to get the 6-5 win on Tuesday night. Baltimore started off the game with 4 straight hits and got a 2-run double by their star, Adam Jones, to get a nice early lead in this one. Leading the way for Baltimore in this one was Travis Snider (1-1, 3 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI) and Steve Pearce (2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI’s, 1 HR). Baltimore welcomed back slugger Chris Davis (0-3 in the game), who’s 25 game suspension ended this past Monday. Baltimore’s starter, Wei-Yin Chen cruised through his first two innings, however, struggled after that and finished the day going 4.1 innings while giving up 3 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks, and 4 K’s. Kevin Gausman (1-0; 7.71 ERA) picked up the win while giving up 2 runs in relief. Baltimore’s closer, Zack Britton, picked up his first save of the season striking out the side in the 9th.

The Tampa Bays couldn’t complete the come-back and fell to 0-2 on the season as outside of a few timely home runs, the offensive couldn’t get much going against the Orioles. Leading the way for the Rays was Kevin Kiermaier (2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI’s, 1 HR). Evan Longoria (1-2, 2 BB, 1 R) and Logan Forsythe (1-3, 1 R, 2 RBI’s, and 1 HR) also played well for Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay’s starter, Nathan Karns (0-1; 9.53) struggled early in this one however, managed to get through 5.2 innings while giving up 6 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks. The Rays bullpen was solid and gave Tampa Bay a chance to win this one as four relievers combined to go 3.1 innings while giving up no runs on just 1 hit and 2 walks.
The Orioles are 4-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog and 8-2 in their last 10 during game 3 of a series. The Rays are 6-14 in their last 20 home games vs. a right-handed starter and just 1-4 in their last 5 games as a home favorite.
Baltimore will send Miguel Gonzalez to the mound who went 10-9 with a 3.23 ERA with a 6.3 K/9 in 2014. Tampa Bay will counter with Jake Odorizzi who finished 2014 going 11-13 with a 4.12 ERA and 1.28 WHIP. I think Miguel Gonzalez is one of the more underrated pitchers in the AL East and until Tampa Bay can prove to me they have an offensive, I’m going to continue to ride Baltimore in this series. Take Baltimore to sweep the Rays in this one.
