The Colorado Rockies look to stay unbeaten with another victory against the Chicago Cubs at Coors Field.
Through three games the Chicago Cubs have yet to get their offense going and when the pitching also struggled in the series opener at Coors Field the result was inevitable. The Cubs had issues at the plate and on the mound in Friday’s 5-1 defeat with Travis Wood taking the loss with three runs plated on seven hits and a trio of BB over 4.2 innings. Brian Schlitter gave up two more runs in the 6th which put the game out of reach with the bats totaling five hits and four free passes. Anthony Rizzo was 2-2 with the lone run scored on Matt Szczur’s RBI. The Cubs send veteran Jason Hammel to the mound for the first time in 2015. Hammel split his time between the Cubs and the A’s in 2014 and in 17 starts with Chicago he was 8-5 with a 2.98 ERA.

The Colorado Rockies have been a surprise in the first week of the season at 4-0 but then again this is the first week and let us not forget that this team was 22-14 to kick off 2014 and were awful the remainder of the year. Tyler Matzek allowed the lone run on four hits through four frames but didn’t get a decision while four relievers held the Cubbies at bay the rest of the way. The Rockies did their damage on eleven hits and three bases on balls with Justin Morneau hitting homerun number one. Troy Tulowitzki was 2-4 with a pair of runs driven in as the pitching and hitting have been on the same page thus far. Kyle Kendrick toes the rubber for the second time when he faces the Chicago Cubs. Kendrick was outstanding in his Colorado debut when he tossed seven scoreless innings in a 10-0 victory at Milwaukee.
The Cubs are 4-14 in their last 18 Saturday games and are 3-9 in their last 12 road games while the over is 10-4-1 in the last 15 Saturday games. Colorado are 11-0 in their last 11 games as a favorite and are 8-2 in their last 10 games following a win while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 home games. Head to head the Cubs are 5-16 in the last 21 meetings in Colorado while the over is 13-6 in the last 19 meetings in Colorado. I have to be honest; I’m not a Hammel backer and as a Phillies fan I’m certainly no Kendrick fan so I hate this match up…
