The Oakland A’s and the Seattle Mariners face off on Sunday in Oakland for game three of their MLB AL West series.
The Oakland A’s won game one of this series but despite battling back late and getting to extra innings, they lost to Seattle on Saturday. Ben Zobrist, Billy Butler, Josh Phegley and Marcus Semien each had two hits as the Athletics scored four runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Sonny Gray allowed six hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out four over 7.1 innings to not get a decision as Dan Otero blew the save and Fernando Abad took the loss. For Sunday’s game the A’s start Jessee Hahn who allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out three over 7.0 innings to take the loss against the Rangers in his first start of the year.

The Seattle Mariners blew their last lead on Saturday but they got it done in overtime beating the A’s on Saturday. Nelson Cruz had three hits including a home run, Seth Smith had two hits, and Dustin Ackley hit a home run as the Mariners scored five runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher J.A. Happ allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out one over 6.1 innings but didn’t factor in the decision as Carson Smith blew the save, Tyler Olson got the win, and Fernando Rodney earned his second save. For Sunday’s game the Mariners start Felix Hernandez who allowed two hits and a run while striking out 10 over 7.0 innings to get the win over the Angels in his first start this season.
Oakland is 5-13 in game three of a series, 1-4 in their last five games as a home underdog, and 41-18 in Sunday games. Seattle is 1-6 in their last seven road games, 1-6 in game three of a series, and 7-1 in Hernandez’s last eight starts against the AL West. Seattle is 14-3 in Hernandez’s last 17 starts in Oakland.
