The Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox meet at U.S. Cellular Field in Sunday afternoon action.
The Minnesota Twins have had trouble getting their scoring and pitching pointed in the right direction and that trend continued in a 5-4 defeat at U.S. Cellular on Saturday. The Twins looked to be on the verge of exploding with a four spot in the top of the second but the pitching couldn’t hold on and the bats stalled. Mike Pelphrey allowed four runs on seven hits over five frames for a no decision with Blaine Boyer giving up a run in the 8th to take the loss. The Twins posted eight hits and a BB with Danny Santana, Chris Hermann and Shane Robinson each driving in a run and scoring. The Twins go with Phil Hughes in the final game of the series with the White Sox on Sunday afternoon. Hughes struggled the first time out in a 4-0 loss at Detroit where he allowed all four on eight hits over six innings.

The Chicago White Sox are similar to their counterparts where both the arms and bats have been struggling. The White Sox appeared to be heading for disaster when the Twins went up 4-0 in the top of the second but the pitching settled down and the offense chipped away. Starter Jeff Samardzija was charged with all four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts through seven innings but did not figure in the decision. Chicago pounded out eleven hits and walked once with Adam LaRoche and Geovany Soto slamming long balls while Conor Gillaspie recording three hits and driving in a run. Left hander Chris Sale makes his first start of 2015 when he takes the ball versus Minnesota Sunday. Sale made 26 starts a season ago where he went 12-4 with a 2.17 ERA over 174 innings.
The under is 11-3 in Hughes’ last 14 on grass and 11-3 in his last 14 starts overall. The White Sox are 3-9 in their last 12 Sunday games and 17-36 in their last 53 games on grass while the under is 7-2 in Sales last 9 Sunday starts. Head to head the over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings in Chicago and 7-2 in the last 9 meetings overall.
