The Chicago Cubs looks for consecutive victories versus the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on Sunday.
The Chicago Cubs have had scoring issues in the early stages of 2014 which has squandered a few good outings on the mound. The offense finally did some damage in Saturday’s 9-5 win at Coors Field. Jason Hammel picked up the win with three runs allowed on eight hits over six frames with four relievers doing enough to hold off the heavy hitting Rockies. Chicago pounded out 12 hits and walked five times with Starlin Castro, Chris Coghlan and Mike Olt going deep while Dexter Fowler and Jorge Soler drove in a pair of runs each. Kyle Hendricks looks to continue the success of his rookie season when he takes the bump at Coors Field on Sunday. Hendricks made 13 starts a year ago and went 7-2 with a 2.46 ERA over 80 innings.

We saw the Colorado Rockies kick off 2014 at 22-14 before the walls came down so I’m not the least bit surprised by their 4-0 start. However I wonder if it can continue and if Saturday’s 9-5 defeat was the start of something bad or just a loss. It was probably a sign of things to come for Kyle Kendricks with eight runs scored on eight hits and five walks including three homers through just five innings pitched. The offense didn’t go down without a fight with 12 hits and a pair of free passes with Kyle Arenado going deep and knocking in two with Corey Dickerson going 2-4 with two RBI’s and two runs. The Rockies hand the ball to Jordan Lyles who looks for back to back victories when he faces the Cubs on Sunday. Lyles was outstanding in his first outing with two runs plated on five hits over six frames of a 5-2 win at Milwaukee.
The Cubs are 3-9 in their last 12 road games and 17-35 in their last 52 Sunday games with the over going 11-5 in their last 16 road games. Colorado are 11-1 in their last 12 games as a favorite while the over is 6-2 in the last Sunday games and 6-2 in their last 8 home games. Head to head the Cubs are 6-16 in the last 22 meetings in Colorado while the over is 14-6 in the last 20 meetings in Colorado. I can see this going either way so I’ll just back the better odds…
