The Kansas City Royals go for the sweep of the Los Angeles Angels on the road Sunday.
I expected Kansas City to be a solid club in 2015 but I’d be lying if I said I expected a 5-0 start following a 6-4 victory at the Angels on Saturday. However when the pitching and hitting are on the same page good things tend to happen. Starter Jeremy Guthrie wasn’t at his best with all four runs scored over seven frames but the pen prevented further damage. Salvador Perez and Mike Moustakas homered with Moustakas and Alex Rios leading the attack with two runs knocked in while Kendrys Morales went 3-5 with an RBI and run. Yordano Ventura toes the rubber for the second time when he faces the LA Angels Sunday. Ventura was an easy winner against the White Sox the first time out in a 10-1 victory where he allowed the lone run over six innings.

The Los Angeles Angels are the defending American League West champs and are expected to repeat. It’s too early to determine if they have what it takes to repeat but I will say they need a win Sunday to avoid getting swept at home by the Royals. Jered Weaver didn’t have his best stuff with all six runs plated on seven hits and four bases on balls through 4.1 frames that dropped him to 0-2. The Angels offense struggled a bit as well with six hits and a walk to their credit with Kole Calhoun going 2-4 with a homer and three RBI’s and a pair of runs. The bottom line is Los Angeles couldn’t string things together. Veteran CJ Wilson looks to duplicate his first outing when he faces visiting Kansas City Sunday. Wilson dominated Seattle 2-0 with a two hitter over eight innings pitched.
Kansas City are 12-2 in their last 14 games as an underdog and 28-11 in their last 39 road games while going 57-27 in their last 84. The Angels are 2-9 in their last 11 overall and 2-9 in their last 11 on grass with the under going 7-3 in the last 10 overall. This seems like I’m pushing the envelope here but I’ll back the hot team at plus odds…
