The New York Yankees head to Camden Yards to face the rival Baltimore Orioles on Monday.
The New York Yankees have been labeled old and perhaps need an injection of youth but none of that mattered in Sunday’s 14-4 rout of the Red Sox. A seven run first inning against Clay Buccholz set the tone and was just enough to make a winner out of Masahiro Tanaka who was charged with all four runs on four hits and a trio of base on balls through five innings of work. Not a great effort but plenty good enough with the bats pounding Boston pitching for 16 hits and walking six times. Alex Rodriguez slugged a three run homer and knocked in four while Chase Headley and Stephen Drew also left the yard with Drew and Brett Gardner knocking in a pair of runs each. The Yankees give the ball to Michael Pineda in the series opener at Baltimore on Monday. Pineda was outstanding in a 4-3 win versus Toronto with two runs allowed over six frames but he did not figure in the decision.

The defending American League East champion Baltimore Orioles have yet to find the groove that made them the top gun in the division a season ago. The Orioles didn’t find it Sunday in a 10-7 defeat versus visiting Toronto with their defense and pitching letting them down. Starter Chris Tillman allowed seven runs (three earned) on six hits including a pair of homers through 2.2 innings pitched. The offense kept the Orioles competitive on eight hits and a pair of free passes with Adam Jones and Travis Snider slamming homeruns and knocking in three runs each while Jones and Steve Pearce scored twice. Left hander Wei-Yin Chen takes the bump Monday versus the visiting Yankees. Chen struggled the first time out in a 6-5 victory at Tampa Bay with three runs plated on four hits and two BB but did not get a decision with just 4.1 innings pitched.
The under is 8-2 in the Yankees last ten Monday games and is 9-3 in their last 12 road games. Baltimore is 16-5 in their last 21 Monday games and 3-7 in their last 10 overall while the over is 9-3-1 in their last 13 on grass. Head to head the Yankees are 4-11 in the last 15 meetings. This is a game I love with the Yanks playing late Sunday so I’ll sit this out and root for the Orioles…
