The Miami Marlins pay a visit to the Big Apple to open a series with the New York Mets.
The Miami Marlins have struggled to get both their pitching and hitting on the same page in the early going but not the past two times out and the result is back to back wins. Dan Haren was outstanding in a 6-2 victory at Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon with two solo homers allowed over seven innings to get the win. The bats produced six hits and walked four times with Adeiny Hechavarria going 3-3 with a homer, three RBI’s and two runs. Dee Gordon went 2-4 with a pair of runs knocked in while Michael Morse clubbed a solo homer and scored twice. Jarred Cosart toes the rubber for the second time in 2015 when he takes on the Mets on the road. Cosart was a tough luck loser in a 2-0 loss to Tampa Bay where he allowed a single run on three hits and three BB in six frames.

When the New York Mets are playing well the opposition is in trouble because they can beat any team, anywhere. The Mets are hot right now with four straight wins after upending visiting Philadelphia 6-1 on Wednesday night. Starter Jon Niese gave up the lone run on nine hits and a pair of bases on balls but somehow squirmed out of constant trouble to get the win with 6.1 innings of work. On the flip side the offense was constantly threatening on 12 hits and five free passes with Lucas Duda going deep with a pair of runs driven in while Travis d’Arnaud slugged a solo jack with a pair of runs scored. Dillon Gee kicks off the series on the mound with visiting Miami on Thursday. Gee struggled in his first outing against the Braves with five runs given up on eight hits over five frames to take the defeat.
The under is 8-1 in Miami’s last 9 games as an underdog while the Marlins are 2-8 in their last 10 as an underdog and 2-8 in their last 10 overall. The Mets are 2-8 in their last 10 Thursday games and 7-3 in their last 10 overall while going 7-3 in the last 10 games on grass. Head to head the over is 9-1-1 in their last 11 meetings with Miami going 3-8 in their last 11 meetings in New York. Sometimes I don’t have a good read on the Mets and I might not here because I’m worried about Gee…
