The Oakland Athletics shoot for back to back victories at Kauffman Stadium versus the Kansas City Royals.
The Oakland Athletics might or might not be a challenger in the American League West but time will tell. The Athletics have decent pitching and hitting and put it all together Saturday in a 5-0 win at Kauffman Stadium. Starter Jesse Hahn tossed a three hit shutout over 5.1 frames to even his record at 1-1 while Jesse Chavez picked up the save with four hits given up in 3.2 innings. The A’s did all their damage in a five run 4th with Josh Reddick leading the way with a three run homer. Oakland turns to Scott Kazmir on the hill for Sunday’s outing at Kansas City. Kazmir has been outstanding to kick off 2015 with a run allowed on four hits covering a combined 15 innings pitched.

Even though the Kansas City Royals took one on the chin Saturday they remain one of the hottest teams in the game over the early going. The Royals fell victim to great pitching while one bad inning on the mound was enough for their downfall. Yordano Ventura absorbed the loss with all five runs scored on five hits and a pair of free passes through 3.1 innings pitched with a three run homer doing him in. The Royals were still in the game with Yohan Pino and Franklin Morales tossing 4.2 and one inning of scoreless relief. Unfortunately the bats could not generate anything on their seven hits and two bases on balls. Left hander Danny Duffy gets the ball in the final game of the series with the Athletics. Dffy bounced back from a poor first start to down Minnesota 12-3 with all three runs scored on six hits over 6.1 frames.
The over is 7-2 in Oakland’s last 9 overall and 7-2 in their last 9 on grass with the under going 9-4-1 in their last 14 road games. Kansas City are 14-2 in their last 16 games as an underdog and 60-29 in their last 89 overall while the over is 6-2 in the Royals last 8 home games. Kazmir has been untouchable so far but has been hit by Kansas City in the past so a slight lean to the home team…
