The Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers face off on Sunday at Safeco Field for game three of their MLB series of AL West teams.
The Seattle Mariners dropped game one of their series with the Rangers but bounced back on Saturday to even the series with a win. Mike Zunino hit a home run and Austin Jackson and Robinson Cano were among those with two hits as the Mariners scored three runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Felix Hernandez delivered another gem allowing two hits and a run while striking out 12 over 7.0 innings to get the win to go to 2-0 for the season and Fernando Rodney earned his third save. For Sunday’s game the Mariners start James Paxton who has allowed 10 hits and seven runs while striking out 11 over 12.1 innings for a 0-1 record and a 5.11 ERA.

The Texas Rangers simply had no answers offensively on Saturday as they fell to the Mariners. Leonys Martin had two hits and Robinson Chirinos and Carlos Peguero each reached base via walk as the Rangers scored one run on two hits. Starting pitcher Colby Lewis allowed 10 hits and three runs while striking out two over 5.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-1 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Rangers start Ross Detweiler who has allowed 18 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out five over 10 innings for a 0-2 record and a 9.00 ERA.
Seattle is 2-7 in game three of a series, 8-3 against a left-handed starter, and 6-2 in Paxton’s last eight home starts. Texas is 8-1 following a loss, 1-4 against a left-handed starter, and 3-9 on the road against a team with a losing home record.
Detweiler is a converted reliever and starting isn’t agreeing with him and look for the Mariners bats to come alive here and give the Mariners another win.
