The surging New York Mets shoot for the series sweep of the Miami Marlins at Citi Field in Sunday action.
The Miami Marlins have been struggling to get both their bats and arms on the same page in the early going which has meant the wins have been scarce. That trend continued in Saturday’s 5-4 defeat at Citi Field where Mat Latos threw his best game of the young season and still lost. Latos allowed two run over five innings with Jose Urena following with three runs plated in two frames. The offense managed eleven hits but didn’t show any life until late with a run in the 8th and three in the 9th. Michael Morse cracked a solo homer while Dee Gordon went 5-5 with three RBI’s.Tom Koehler gets the starting assignment versus red hot New York on Sunday. Koehler is shooting for back to back wins after defeating Atlanta 8-2 with both runs plated on solo homers in 5.1 frames.

The New York Mets have been on a roll and have where they have received contributions from both their arms and at the plate. That was a winning combination once again on Saturday in a 5-4 win versus visiting Miami for win number seven in a row. Jacob deGrom threw a six hit shutout over seven frames and recorded eight strikeouts before Carlos Torres nearly gave it all back with three runs scored in the 9th. The Mets totaled ten hits and a free pass with Wilmer Flores leaving the yard and driving in two while Travis d’Arnaud connected on a solo homer. Ace Matt Harvey looks for his third straight win when he squares off with Miami. Harvey is coming off of a 6-5 victory against Philadelphia in which he gave up three runs on five hits including a pair of homeruns in six frames.
Miami are 3-10 in their last 13 overall and 3-10 in their last 13 games on grass while the over is 7-3-2 in Koehler’s last 12 starts on grass. The over is 6-2-1 in the Mets last 9 overall and 6-2-1 in their last 9 on grass while New York is 21-8 in their last 29 games as a favorite. Head to head the over is 10-1-1 in the last 12 meetings and 7-1 in the last 8 meetings in New York. This is no slam dunk because Koehler has been strong in this match up but I’ll stay with the hot hand…
