The Texas Rangers visit Chase Field to open an interleague series with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
This isn’t the same Texas Rangers squad that won the American League West several season’s ago as their offense and pitching are having difficulty getting on the same page. The Rangers are trying to snap out of the doldrums that have produced losses in six of nine. The Rangers come off an 11-10 loss at Seattle with the Mariners scoring five times in the 8th and 9th. Starter Ross Detwiler was charged with five runs on seven hits in 2.1 frames with Tanner Scheppers allowing three in the 8th while Neftali Feliz blew the save with two runs plated in the 9th. The Rangers pounded out 13 hits and walked four times with Jake Smolinski going deep and driving in two while Shin-Soo Choo and Rougned Odor knocking in two runs each. The Rangers send Nicholas Martinez to the bump for his first meeting with the Diamondbacks. Martinez has been outstanding in two outings with an unearned run allowed on nine hits and five BB over 14 innings.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are out to avoid the slow start to the 2014 season that took them out of the National League West race early. The Diamondbacks climbed above the .500 mark with wins in three of four following a 5-1 victory versus San Francisco on Sunday. Starter Jeremy Hellickson was at his best with the lone run allowed on eight hits and a base on balls through 6.2 innings to improve to 1-2. The Snakes mustered eight hits and walked twice with Paul Goldschmidt going deep with two RBI’s and two runs scored while AJ Pollock was 3-5 with a pair of runs with Chris Owings went 3-4 with two runs driven in. Chase Anderson toes the rubber for the third time when he faces the Rangers for the first time in his career. Anderson is coming off of a 3-2 defeat at San Diego (ND) with a pair of runs allowed on eight hits in six frames.
The over is 9-4 in the Rangers last 13 road games. Arizona are 1-9 in their last 10 Tuesday games and 2-7 in their last 9 interleague games while the over is 6-1-1 in Anderson’s last 8 home starts. Head to head Texas are 13-5 in the last 18 meetings. I see very little that makes me want to bet this so perhaps a small lean to the Rangers at better odds…
