The Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates play game two of their four-game series Tuesday night.
The Chicago Cubs look for a win after splitting their last six games. The Cubs bats are starting to come to life, as they’ve produced four or more runs in seven of their last nine games. The Cubs have won nine of their last 10 games when scoring more than three runs. Jorge Soler and Starlin Castro have combined for 32 hits and 15 RBI while Miguel Montero has six RBI. The Chicago Cubs are a solid 3-1 on the road this season and have shown they can be a solid club when their offense actually shows up. Travis Wood gets the nod, and he’s 1-1 with a 2.31 ERA and 12 strikeouts this season. Wood is 5-7 with a 4.28 ERA and 59 strikeouts in his career against the Pirates.

The Pittsburgh Pirates also look for a win after splitting their last six games. Despite allowing five runs in Monday’s loss, the Pirates pitching staff has allowed three or less runs in five of their last six games. The Pirates are 5-3 this season when allowing three or less runs. Offensively, Gregory Polanco leads Pitt with 13 hits and four stolen bases while Andrew McCutchen and Starling Marte have combined for 20 RBI. Three of the Pittsburgh Pirates seven losses have come on their home field. Francisco Liriano takes the hill, and he’s 0-1 with a 2.08 ERA and 14 strikeouts this season. Liriano is 4-2 with a 2.30 ERA and 65 strikeouts in his career against the Cubs.
The Cubs are 4-9 in their last 13 games as a road underdog and 2-5 in Woods last 7 road starts. The Pirates are 39-17 in their last 56 games as a home favorite and 4-9 in Lirianos last 13 starts. The Pirates are 6-2 in Lirianos last 8 starts vs. Cubs and the Cubs are 1-5 in Woods last 6 starts vs. Pirates.
Wood hasn't had great success against Pittsburgh, while it's been the oposite for Liriano against the Cubs. Pittsburgh should bounce back after really playing an ugly game on Monday. I'd take the Pirates to win by two runs to give my wager more value.
