The Boston Red Sox finish their series at Tropicana Field against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday.
The Boston Red Sox are one of the top teams in the American League East so far but let one get away from them Wednesday as the blew a four a four run lead on the way to a 7-5 defeat at Tropicana Field. Starter Joe Kelly gave up five runs on eight hits over five innings with Edward Mujica getting the loss with a pair of runs plated in the 7th. The offense did their damage early on eight hits and four walks with Dustin Pedroia going 2-5 with a homer and two RBI’s while David Ortiz cracked his third bomb of 2015. Boston sends Clay Buccholz to the bump in the final game of the series at Tampa Bay. Buccholz looks to bounce back from a 4-1 loss to Baltimore where he gave up two runs on eleven hits over six innings.

I don’t know where the Tampa Bay Rays fit in the landscape known as the American League East as I think they need help in both the hitting and pitching departments. The arms were saved by the bats Wednesday as starter Nathan Karns was charged with all five runs on seven hits and four free passes through six frames with three relievers tossing three scoreless innings. The Rays racked up 12 hits and walked three times with Brandon Guyer ripping a pinch hit two run single in the 7th to win it. Steven Souza and Jake Elmore clubbed solo homers while Jake Elmore and Asdrubal Cabrera scored twice.Tampa Bay turns to right hander Jake Odorizzi for Thursday’s start versus the Red Sox. Odorizzi is coming off of a 9-0 loss to the Yankees where he gave up three runs on five hits while whiffing nine in six frames.
The over is 7- in Boston’s last 8 games as an underdog while the Red Sox are 45-22 in Buccholz’s last 67 road starts. The over is 6-2 in Tampa Bay’s last 8 home games and 6-2 in their last 8 games as an underdog. Boston are 3-7 in Buccholz’s last 10 starts versus Tampa Bay. I’m leery of backing Buccholz to be honest and I’m not a fan of Tampa Bay either…
