The Washington Nationals travel to Marlins Park to match up with the Miami Marlins.
The Washington Nationals are meandering about as they are playing around .500 baseball the past few weeks which means they are losing ground to the Mets in the National League East. The Nationals dropped 4-1 decision to visiting St Louis on Thursday which was great starting pitching and little else. Max Scherzer was outstanding with two runs scored on six hits over seven frames before the pen gave up two more even though it didn’t matter with the bats producing six hits with Denard Span driving in Danny Espinosa. Jordan Zimmermann will be on the hill for game number one at Miami on Friday. Zimmermann suffered from poor defense in a 5-3 loss to Philadelphia with four runs allowed (two earned) on four hits and four BB in 6.1 frames.

The Miami Marlins haven’t done a whole lot in the early going so anything positive is almost front page news. The Marlins made the front page with a lopsided 9-1 rout of Philadelphia. Starter David Phelps was dominant with a three hit shutout through seven innings to go 1-0 with Nick Masset allowing the only run in the 9th. The Marlins pounded Phillies pitching for 12 hits and walked five times. Giancarlo Stanton clubbed a two run homer while Martin Prado driving in four runs with Adeiny Hechavarria going 4-4 with three more runs. Mat Latos looks to build on his last outing when he takes on the Nationals Friday. Latos fell to 0-3 following a 5-4 loss at the Mets with two runs allowed on six hits over five innings of work.
The Over is 7-2-1 in Washington’s last 10 overall and is 7-2-1 in their last 10 on grass while the under is 20-7-1 in the Nationals last 28 games as a favorite. Miami are 5-16 in their last 21 games as an underdog with the under going 9-3-1 in the Marlins last 13 games as an underdog while Miami are 5-13 in their last 18 overall. The Nats are 9-2 in Zimmermann’s last 11 starts versus Miami and 22-8 in the last 30 meetings. Zimmermann has been great against Miami so I’ll back him more then anything…
