Great American Ball Park and the Cincinnati Reds host the rival Milwaukee Brewers in Monday action.
The Milwaukee Brewers have really put themselves behind the eight ball with a very slow start so they need to begin racking up the wins which means winning series. The Brewers took a step in that direction in a 6-3 victory against visiting St Louis on Sunday. Starter Mike Fiers gave up two runs (one earned) on nine hits and a pair of free passes over four frames with four relievers holding the dangerous Cardinals to a single run. The Brew Crew logged ten hits and walked once with Adam Lind leading the way with a two run bomb while Gerardo Parra went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jimmy Nelson will be on the hill for the second straight time against Cincinnati in Monday’s series opener. Nelson did not get a decision in a 2-1 loss to the Reds where allowed a single run on three hits and two BB over eight innings.

The Cincinnati Reds need to win series and string wins together to keep St Louis from getting to far ahead in the National League Central. The Reds missed a chance to pick up ground in Sunday’s 5-2 defeat to the visiting Cubs. Anthony DeSclafani deserved a better fate with all five runs plated but just one was earned in five frames with three relievers holding Chicago scoreless. The offense totaled six hits and walked three times with Todd Frazier going deep for his 5th while Billy Hamilton tripled in another. Veteran Jason Marquis toes the rubber in the series opener against visiting Milwaukee. Marquis absorbed a 16-10 loss at Miller Park last time out with five runs plated on nine hits with eight K’s in five frames.
Milwaukee are 14-40 in their last 54 overall and are 14-40 in their last 54 games on grass while the under is 11-4-1 in MIL last 16 road games. Cincinnati are 2-7 in their last 9 Monday games and are 4-9 in their last 13 overall while the Reds are 4-9 in their last 13 games on grass. The under is 37-17-1 in the last 55 meetings. Milwaukee is the worse team in the game record wise but I think the pitching match up favors them here…
